On about April 19th 2002 SOMEONE hacked into the old guestbooks and DELETED
them. What they deleted was over 500 DEATH and ADDICTION stories relating
directly to OXYCONTIN. They also deleted over 100 stories from people who
are legitimate patients and most of them need oxycontin for their SEVERE
PAIN. I apologize to anyone who took the time to share their stories to HELP
warn others. Those guestbooks were somehow a comfort to all who have been
affected by this ABUSE epidemic. Please if you are looking for your story
then REPOST it. I'm sad to say but by the amount of email I am receiving
these guestbook's will rapidly rebuild their SAD tales BUT people need to be
warned as to the power of this drug and the deadly consequences when ABUSED.

I have been an addict for more than twelve years, and I am forty now. I have been to an inpatient rehab, which is a place that I highly reccomend to anyone, and the only place I reccomend for anyone under thirty five. The inpatient route was very good, except that I had pain in my back and my knees that were VERY REAL even after I was detoxed off of pain killers. I tried everything to avoid taking any more drugs. I had every test known to man to find the source of the pain, but to no avail. I took some vicodin and "WALLA", the pain was gone totally.
I then talked to an addiction specialist, and it was pointed out to me that my bodies receptors were whack, and I could either deal with this until they fixed themselves, which could take a very very long time, and deal with the pain, I could go into denial and gobble street drugs which niether of us reccomended for me, but if I were to try to just deal with the pain until my receptors fixed themselves, and more than likeley wind up eating vicodins and whatever, or I could go on methadone, and I could ever so slowly (years we are talking) detox which would eventually allow my receptors to recept. This is a REAL LENGTHY process. I chose the methadone, and I havent regretted a minute of it. I dose in the morning, and thats it! I get on with my day, and I finally feel normal. My body will go through an extremley slow weaning process, so that I won't have to feel any of the withdrawl pain, and meanwhile I work and play, and love every day. I don't take any pills, I don't drink, I have my grandbabies over all night alot. I have my life back. However; for teens and young adults who have not taken drugs for years do not need to take this route, and I am digressing, my reason for writing is to wonder about the oxy's, and why the FDA has not added the naloxone to the oxy's, which would take away the reason why they get crushed in the first place.
There is a new long term drug on the market, much like methadone called "Buprenorphine. It is a tablet that is also time released, and its for withdrawl, and to keep people off of opoids. The naloxone in it just sits there, and does no harm to the system at all, it just gets absorbed, UNLESS the buprenorphine is crushed. Then it does two things: it takes away the effectiveness of the buprenorphine and it also makes the person have instant withdrawl symptoms. and knowing this when a person begins treatment, they usually won't tamper with the pill. So why don't the FDA put this seemingly harmless substance into the oxycontins, and if a person takes them as directed, then the naloxone will not do anything to your system, but if a person crushes them, the naloxone ruins the "buzz", and makes you extremely sick as well? That would totally curb that urge now wouldn't it? Also list the oxycontins under the same heading as methadone-you have to go to a special clinic to get them, or to a special pharmacy,
I have seen and heard of many of my sons friends who are now addicted to these oxycontins, they are only 20 to 25 years old, and they have new babies at home and here they are all addicted to these drugs...its so sad, and the methadone at that age wouldn't be the right choice, but yet I am seeing a new wave a young at my clinic... |
