On about April 19th 2002 SOMEONE hacked into the old guestbooks and DELETED them. What they deleted was over 500 DEATH and ADDICTION stories relating directly to OXYCONTIN. They also deleted over 100 stories from people who are legitimate patients and most of them need oxycontin for their SEVERE PAIN. I apologize to anyone who took the time to share their stories to HELP warn others. Those guestbooks were somehow a comfort to all who have been affected by this ABUSE epidemic. Please if you are looking for your story then REPOST it. I'm sad to say but by the amount of email I am receiving these guestbook's will rapidly rebuild their SAD tales BUT people need to be warned as to the power of this drug and the deadly consequences when ABUSED.
Please read the other stories and add yours to our guestbook...

I have been addicted to oxycontin and Fentanyl for over 4 years. I've had numerous back operations, the last was a 3 level fusion with insturmentation. I've always abused my meds, never taking them for my pain, only for a high. I'd been to detox twice both resulting in relapses. My wife gave me an ultimatum, stop using or she's leaving. I've been clean for 22 days now. The first 5 days were a living hell, but each day after that got a little easier. I still have difficulty sleeping but that too gets easier. My pain is horrible from my back. I'm 31 yrs. old and cannot function as a normal human being. i.e. yard work, house work etc..... But I know I cannot take meds as directed, even with my wifes help. If you want to stop, confide in a friend, loved one, and tell them what you're going through. Go to AA, go see your pastor or priest. Do whatever it takes. If you want to stop you can. Opiate withdrawls are NOT life threatening. Just hang in there and keep telling yourself it will get better. I do think about it alot. It's like a little devil sitting on my shoulder telling me just one time will be ok. I tell myself 1 is too many and a thousand is never enough. I dream about it too when I do sleep. That has gotten better, but dreams now are vivid and seem real. I wish all of you who are trying to stop using oxy the best. I know I'm not out of the woods yet, but my physical withdrawls are gone and to me that was the hard part. When I do get a craving, I talk to my wife about it. It helps to talk. God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the strength to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. I learned that prayer in AA and have recited it to my self hundreds of times in the past weeks. I'm not a very spiritual guy but think he listens to whoever says it.

Kathy, I read your post about your daughter and I feel for you, I too was at one time addicted to oxycontin and put my family thru hell, although I never stole from my family. My advice to you is allow your daughter to go on methadone, if it is the only option to get her off of oxy's. I have been on methadone for over one year, I tried every form of detox and recovery and continuously relapsed. Methadone will stabilize your life, stop withdrawals and cravings, and STOP all criminal behavior and activity if she takes the treatment seriously. Yes the baby will be born dependent, but the hospitals have good programs to detox the baby relatively quickly with no aftereffects.I have a wonderful life now with a good job, family and life in general all because of methadone. Keep in mind addiction is a disease. Most diseases humans are inflicted with require medication, why should addiction be any different. Understand, I DO NOT advise methadone maintenance unless you have tried everything else and failed, and the individual needs to want to stop using drugs. If your daughter wants to be a good mother she needs to first get her own life under control and methadone has done that for millions of people who are opiate addicts. Good luck and I will pray for you and your daughter.
