People don't intentionally abuse oxycontin the drug does it on it's own, my son's physician presribed this drug for him after numerous surgery's for a service connected injury. At first it worked great on the pain but then the pain got progressively worse, it was almost as if the drug taking it upon itself to mimic pain so that the dose would have to be higher, every time he told the doctor that he wasn't feeling well he upped the dose. To make a long story short he was on it for 3 years, was feeling totally ill was still in very much pain couldn't work, couldn't function , daily activity's were a catastrophe, he decided to take the bull by the horns and go into a detox program, unfortunately although the detox program was a good one he had a seizure was very sick spent some time in the hospital where he didn't even know his name half of the time, from the hospital he went to a rehab and now he's home off of everything . But if it weren't for taking the oxycontin to begin with none of the following events would have happened, we will be retaining an attorney and I will give any help that I can to any agency that wishes to try and get a reversal on the distribution of oxycontin. Also I have a friend that was telling me a story about a friend of hers that was taking oxy in her latter stages of cancer, the FDA approved the drug for chronic pain mainly for cancer patients, it was my understanding that the drug was better because although it was stronger for the pain the patients were a little more coherent,that's a crock., this woman couldn't even say goodbye to her children before she died. I was using oxycontin every day when one night my boyfriend and I did 5 oxy 80's and I went to sleep and I was fine, really high, but ok...the next morning I woke up in the hospital. My mom came to wake me up for school and I wasnt breathing, my heart wasnt beating either. She gave me mouth to mouth while my boyfriend called 911. All I remember for the next 3 days is them trying to keep me awake and people kept coming in my hospital room crying. I tried to pretend like everything was ok but I didnt understand what had happened and the severity of it all. After my 3 days in the Critical Care Unit in the hospital they took me to the psychiatric center for an evaluation and kept me there for 6 days to detox me and they diagnosed me with depression, which I believe is the main reason for the severity of my addiction. Anyways the terms of my getting out of the Psych center was that I had to go to rehab. I hated it there, I only stayed about a week because my councaler was a prick, but its been 3 months that ive been clean and Im proud of that and hope that other people with this adiction can be so lucky as I am and make it through the overdose if it gets to that point. And to all the people who have lost loved ones, Im truely am sorry, I wish the drug wasnt so easy to get and I wish people would stay the hell away from it.   Name: Email: Type:Chronic Pain Story Date:5/8/2005 Hello, Im 19 years old. I’ve been on Oxycontin and Percocet for 3 years. Ive just started the weaning off. Its very painful. Ive been off for 2 months now and im still going through hell. Bones hurt, runny nose, caughing, stiffness, no sleep. Im at my witts end. I was a firm believer in Oxy. Now after going through this, I think the drug should be taken off the market. My mother is on it due to severe chronic pain so I don’t know what she would do without this drug, shes very ill. But I was 16 when I started it, with a Dr. of coarse but I don’t think I needed to be on Oxy. It’s teared my life apart. It’s been stolen from me countless times because it’s so hot now and it really has destroyed my life and my boyfriends. I left my meds in his car unlabled and he now has a felony on his record. My withdrawal symptoms are so bad I feel like checking myself in a detox clinic. I cannot believe how much my attitude has changed since I’ve been off. I don’t want anything to do with it EVER again. The withdrawals are more painful than the initial pain I had to get on the drug… Please do what your doing and get this drug to be taken off the market. Thank you.
