On about April 19th 2002 SOMEONE hacked into the old guestbooks and DELETED them. What they deleted was over 500 DEATH and ADDICTION stories relating directly to OXYCONTIN. They also deleted over 100 stories from people who are legitimate patients and most of them need oxycontin for their SEVERE PAIN. I apologize to anyone who took the time to share their stories to HELP warn others. Those guestbooks were somehow a comfort to all who have been affected by this ABUSE epidemic. Please if you are looking for your story then REPOST it. I'm sad to say but by the amount of email I am receiving these guestbook's will rapidly rebuild their SAD tales BUT people need to be warned as to the power of this drug and the deadly consequences when ABUSED.
Please read the other stories and add yours to our guestbook...

To "Darren"? I took my Ex, to a pain managment specialst, after 9 YEARS of Dr's failing to diagnose him...YES, they not only diagnosed him accuratly but treated his pain with HUGE amounts of both Oxtcontin and Lortab 10mg....YES, within 6 months he terriably abused his medications, BUT, after he chased my then 4yr old son out the door with a knife, for turning off the TV, AFTER, he took a months worth of pain meds in 4 days, AFTER, he tore my home apart and threatened to skin my children alive, to see me "hurt" like he did, I called his Pain Managment Doctor and BEGGED him to stop the drugs and put him into rehab....My Ex had an appointment the very next morning, and came home with his months supply, I called the Pain managment Doctor back, absolutly hysterical, and was told, he gave him his meds, because he NEEDED them, My Ex, went to the appointment covered in blood, from falling the night before and spliting his head on the coffee table and was STILL given his meds and NO help....I had to have him COMMITED on a 72 hour hold in a psych clinic, in order to safely leave the state with my 4 children.....Maybe you yourself would never have refilled his meds, but because there are those who merely do NOT care, families like mine are torn to shreds.............

My name is Judy Kelley and I'm writing to express my views abouth the deaths and the addiction caused by OxyContin. My daughter, Holly Ray Butler, 28 years old, died February 3, 2003, of an accidental drug overdose of OxyContin. She was given the pills by an elderly man who had been subscribed the drug and for whom she was a caregiver. According to the coroner's report, she took the equivalent of 3 or 4 OxyContin pills (unsure of dosage), then lapsed into a coma at the old man's home. He panicked and called a young man and woman he knew to come and help him get her out of his home. These three people apparently drove around with her in the trunk of the old man's car from approximately 10:00 p.m. on February 2, 2003, until they left her on the side of a lonely, seldom-used road, at approximately 9:30 a.m. February 3, 2003. The "informant", the young man who helped remove Holly's comatose body from this old man's home, came forward six months later. He stated that she was alive when she was left (as if she were old garbage) on the side of this road, where she was found by a passer-by not long after her death. Due to the fact that Holly worked for this elderly man (in his business and also, on occasion at his home - cooking, cleaning, and bookkeeping, etc.), I had known him for 2 or 3 years prior to her death. I never saw any medical reason for a doctor to prescribe this drug to him. Other than his age (approx. 80 years old), he was in good health, he did not have cancer or any other terminal disease. As a matter of fact, he's still living (with no terminal diseases) and from information I have received, is still in relatively good physical condition. In other words, why would a doctor prescribe him this "murder-drug", knowing he was NOT terminally ill? My daughter's death occurred two years ago, long after Purdue knew and physicians across the country knew of the horrific dangers of this drug. They knew that it causes swift and "PERMANENT" addiction, and they knew that its use has resulted in countless deaths. Holly had a severe car accident in 2000 that almost severed her right arm, broke most of her ribs, broke her pelvic bone on both sides, broke her coccyx bone, etc. She had major reconstruction 8-hour surgery) on her arm and was in the hospital for about 10 days. After being discharged, she took Lortabs on and off until her death. I don't blame anyone for her addiction and neither did she. She fought to be free, being admitted into in-house, long-term rehab on three occaions and attending AA and NA meetings on a daily basis. I know from the research I've done since her death that none of us knows if we will become an addict when taking that first drink or swallowing that first pill. But I will say this, I know for a fact that Holly had consumed multiple Lortabs in one day's time during her struggle with addiction and she did not die. On the evening of February 2, she takes the equivalent of 3 or 4 OxyContin pills and she's dead by morning. Now, I have never been told whether she swallowed these pills or snorted these pills (there were no needle marks in her veins). It really doesn't matter, does it? The fact is, she had struggled with opiate addiction and had tried to be free, if for no other reason than her precious daughter. She did not know that 3 or 4 pills of OxyContin would kill her. The pharmaceutical company that manufactured Vioxx has stopped the distribution of this drug on the "chance" that it "may" cause a stroke or a heart attack. How many people have died as a result of taking Vioxx, a handful, perhaps?? Yet, thousands have ALREADY died from OxyContin and Purdue knows. How many thousand more have to die from OxyContin before this drug is administered ONLY to those with terminal illnesses, under controlled situations? My beautiful daughter is dead!! I will never see her on this earth again. She left behind to mourn and grieve for her forever her beautiful, 3-year old daughter, Hollyn Faith, a sister, Nicole, one year older than Holly, her ex-husband, her parents, grandmother, aunts, uncles and other relatives and hundreds of friends. A few weeks before Holly died, she said "Mother, I'm going to have a great testimony some day". I promised God when she died that I would do whatever I could to help her to have the testimony she so longed to have. I must trust God in the knowledge that her death did not catch Him unaware and know that it's part of a "Greater Plan". I trust that her death will not be in vain and that the careless administering of OxyContin is STOPPED!
