I THINK THE BLAME IS MORE ON THE DOCTORS FOR MAKING IT SO AVAILABLE. I FELL FIFTEEN FEET AND I WAS REALLY HURT AND MY DOCTOR GAVE ME 12 PERCOCETS AT AT TIME. I ONLY TOOK THEM FOR A FEW DAYS AND THEN I TOOK MOTRIN BECAUSE I HAVE A SISTER WITH MANY MEDICAL PROBLEMS AND SHE IS PRESCRIBED OXYCONTIN. WHEN I GO TO THE PHARMACY FOR HER TO PICK HER PERCRIPTIONS UP (ABOUT 10 DIFFERENT ONES EVERY MONTH), I FEEL LIKE I AM DOING SOMETHING WRONG OR ILLEGAL!!!(BECAUSE OF THE OXYCONTIN) I DON'T THINK THA IS THEY WAY IT SHOULD BE BUT THEN AGAIN I CAN IMAGINE WHAT THESE PHARMACISTS DEAL WITH EVERY DAY. I WOULD NEVER EVEN CONCIDER TAKING OXYCONTIN AFTER WHAT I SEE MY SISTER GO THROUGH EVERY MONTH. SHE IS IN A LOT OF PAIN WITH SCLERODERMA AND RA BUT KNOW MATTER HOW MUCH OXYCONTIN SHE IS PERSCRIBED IT WILL NEVER BE ENOUGH OR LAST HER THE WHOLE MONTH BECAUSE THE DOCTOR TELLS HER TO TAKE THEM AS NEEDED. SHE HAS TROUBLE SLEEPING AT NIGHT SO SHE TAKES AN EXTRA PILL. SHE HAS BEEN ON THEM FOR SO LONG I REALLY DON'T THINK THEY WORK FOR HER BECAUSE WHEN SHE DOESN'T HAVE THEM I THINK SHE HURTS MORE FROM THE WITHDRAWELS. SHE IS SO UNHAPPY AND I THINK IT IS MORE BECAUSE SHE CANNOT FUNCTION WITHOUT THIS HORRIBLE MEDICINE. HER DOCTOR IS TRYING TO LOWER HER MG PER MONTH BUT IT DOESN'T HELP HER BECAUSE SHE STILL TAKES HER USUSAL AMOUNT OR MORE AND SHE IS JUST RUNNING OUT SOONER. SHE IS NOT NICE TO BE AROUND WHEN THIS HAPPENS, SO SHE STAYS HOME BY HERSELF AND DOESNT ANSWER HER PHONE SO NOONE KMOWS IF SHE IS OK OR NOT. I BELEIVE THIS DRUG IS PROBRABLE GOOD FOR SOME PEOPLE BUT NOT TO BE TAKEN LIKE THIS. IT IS SO DEPRESSING AND I HATE SEEING HER LIKE THIS. I CAN'T TELL HER TO STOP BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE LEVEL OF HER PAIN REALLY IS. One of the many dangers, besides abuse, is adding Alcohol to the mix. Please, if you know someone who is on oxycontin, tell them to stay away from alcohol, it is a deadly cocktail. MY LIFE STORY of 27 LONG LONG years!!hi to all who have posted here, I am 27 yr old female, who has stage 4 cancer, and told many times I have only months to live, I was first told this when they FINALLY found the cancer 2 yrs ago!! I have had it for good 10 years, and I must say, that I have lived a better, healthier life, and fought the pain just fine alone, and now they add oxys to my treatment so I have faith in my doc, and take them, and wish I was still on this journey alone, the oxys have made me sicker, they are the only reason I am in bed now, I know these are the ones making me sick, not my cancer, This miracle for me, is taking my life faster than my cancer!! this is my list of meds and dose. oxy 80 mgs, 6 tabs every 12 hrs. and oxyfast for breakthrough pain, 20ml liquid, and take 30 droppers ( one full bottle) for pain every 4-6 hrs, as well as 1800mcg fentanayl sucker 2 suckers fpr breakthrough, and now the 100 duragesic patch every 3 days! I am also given soma, and 2 mg klonopin 2 tabs as needed and 2 at bed. Itake 25 mg phenogren, and today the doc put me on liquid form of hydrocodone ext release called TUSSIONEX 240 ML for a cough, I am reading this site for the 1st time, and i am so glad that I did, your storys have made me think twice! I am not going to take this new med now, and I am going to try to wean down my meds, I have asked my doc many times to take me off this med, or start to wean me, and he always adds anew one and doubles my dose, thank GOD you guys have posted and shared your story with me, you just saved my life !! thank u! i am not taking the full amount I am told to, I only take maybe 3 tabs, and rare a sucker, and no patches for me, and the liquids, I have 60 bottles left for this month, so I have gone more days without it than I have with it, I feel l ike I am very sick with the flu now, these meds are making my symptoms worse, each time I take one, I FEEL EVEN WORSE!! I started to have trouble breathing about a month ago, my neighbor called 911 at 3 am to find me not breathing and haveing convulsions or like symptoms, and I have trouble breathing as is, Now this, I have stopped breathing 4 x on the way to hosp. and emt had to bring me back !! thank GOD that I had them there standing by with OXYGEN for me! When I had my girl I was 18, I was always healthy and had a good preg. and the night I had her, ended up being labor pain for 22 hrs then crash csection, and telling my nurs I was having problems breathin, they blew me off, and I was in my room after surg. and this was my last night in the hosp, I stopped breathing, and woke up 2 weeks later in ICU very confused!! I have a heart cond. from all the stress called cardiomiopathy, it turned out I had pre clampsia toxemia. I was on life support, and I was actually pronounced dead, and my newlywed hubby and mom, and family from all over the us ( red cross flew them out) had planned my funeral, after 2 weeks on life support, and a machine pumpin my heart, breathin for me, they took life support off and said if I am a fighter, then I will show a miracle and start breathing on my own after this long, when they take me off, but not to count on it, and to say goodbye to me, I remember hearing them cry at my side cuz they had lost me at 18 ! just had a baby, and this.. AND BOOM! I SHOWED THEM I AM STRONG I AM A FIGHTER AND I AM A SURVIvOR, so I opened my eyes as I had to gasp for air suddenly, and I am still the talk of my town 10 yrs later ! so 7 yrs after this battle I am faced with cancer, and now this! OXY!!!!! i feel sicker now than ever! and I can say I have been through ALOT for my age, and I have overcome anything in my way, BUT THIS SICK LIL PILL CALLED OXYCONTIN is the first to defeat me!I have no idea how I am going to get off this much med!! I know I can handle my pain on my own, for this pill puts me in more pain! I managed to get by with a half of vicodin on my worst days! NOW I cant even take 1 oxy it doesnt do anything! I AM ASHAMED I AM ANGRY AND I AM GOING TO STOP IT BEFORE IT STOPS ME, and I want you all to know u are the reason I AM HERE AND STOPPING!! SO U HAVE SAVED MY LIFE!!
